Best Floor Mats

When it comes to truck floor protection, I don’t care what kind of lifestyle you have. You absolutely need floor mats for your truck. Even if don’t go to the beach, camping, hunting, or any other kind of outdoor activity like I do, there will be times when you will wish you had better floor protection.

For example, after walking in the rain, have you ever tracked mud, leaves or other random debris back into your truck? Or have you had to eat or drink while driving (which I don’t recommend) and accidentally spilled a beverage or dropped food onto the floor? The fact is that the majority of us have experienced these events, proving the need to protect your floors.

Over three years ago, I purchased WeatherTech floor liners from Amazon and have happily had them in my Tacoma ever since. I’ve also had my floors protected numerous times from my kids and my own clumsiness. To me, these floor liners have been one of the best investments for my truck and I highly recommend them for you too.

My Personal Experience with WeatherTech Floor Liners

As I’ve said, I have had my WeatherTech floor liners in my Tacoma for a few years now. I just love how they can take so much abuse and only need a quick rinse by hose to clean them off. Personally, this is why I also like them:

  • Perfect fit– In my experience with floor mats in the past, they would always require constant re-adjusting and cleaning underneath. Not the floor liners. I dropped them in my truck and the fit the outline of the floor perfectly. It was a nice upgrade to the look of my interior.
  • Spill container– I can’t tell you how many times I’ve either spilled a drink or my kids spilled their milk on these liners. Whatever the beverage was, it contained all the liquids and they never leaked into the carpet. Again, it was so easy to clean off.
  • Color match– This probably isn’t huge for most people but I love how my grey floor liners match my grey interior. They also come in tan and black. My wife has black WeatherTech floor liners in her Toyota Highlander and they look so sleek in it.

What I Don’t Like

Overall, I am extremely happy with my floor liners, but if I had to nitpick, here are some things that I didn’t like:

  • Sticky residue– I’ve noticed that the bottom of the floor liner that’s in contact with your truck are a bit sticky. It’s not syrup-sticky, nor has this sticky residue affected the carpet. In reality, it may have been something I did unawares but it still find it a bit weird.
  • No anchor cover-I understand that some of floor liner models have retention covers, providing a fully hole-less surface. As you can see from the model I own, there are pre-existing holes for my anchor hooks. I learned that the floor liner models with retention covers are for vehicles that do not have pre-existing retention hooks and must be installed aftermarket. WeatherTech provides these retention hooks when you order their floor liners.

Floor Liners vs Floor mats

When I was shopping for floor mats for my Tacoma, I also found floor liners. I didn’t know how they were completely different from what I was originally looking for but I’m glad I found them.

As you can see from the photos above, the WeatherTech floor liners are laser-fit to match your specific vehicle, whereas floor mats can fit multiple vehicles, sometimes requiring a trim to fit more exactly. Both provide ample floor protection but floor liners provide just a tad more.

If you look on the edges of both the liner and the mats, the liner covers a larger surface area. The liner covers the floor beneath your feet as well as part of side trim and angles up the center console. The way it is designed allows it to better isolate liquid spills and prevents anything from leaking into the carpet underneath the liner.

Floor mats do a good job of protecting the vehicle floor but don’t do as good of a job containing spills. Floor mats also don’t protect the hump in the rear that some trucks have. Floor liners made for the rear are typically one piece that also protects the hump.

WeatherTech vs Husky Floor Liners

These two brands sell the best floor liners in the market and it’s not even close. Most people always have a hard time choosing between the two.

In the end, I chose WeatherTech for these reasons:

  1. WeatherTech floor liners are more rigid versus the Husky floor liners which are more flimsy. If liquid spills on the WeatherTech, it’s easier to remove the floor liner from the vehicle without spilling the liquid onto your truck floor.
  2. WeatherTech looks better. It has a sleeker design and it doesn’t have awkward channels like the Husky does. The Husky’s channels make it slightly harder to clean when needed.
  3. WeatherTech is more durable. Due to its rigidity, it holds up better to wear and tear and punctures.

In my opinion, the only thing that Husky has WeatherTech beat on is the price. Husky floor liners are slightly cheaper. However, I’m willing to pay a tad more for better quality.

At the end of the day, you really can’t go wrong with buying either one. Both brands fit their vehicles well, provide outstanding floor protection and have a limited lifetime warranty.
